I'll admit that, although my original training was in
mathematics, I avoided broaching the subjects of finance and accounting like
the plague. However, once I entered the world of consulting, and started my
first company, I found the need for an introduction to these subjects to be
of great importance, indeed. I consulted this text and found it to be a
reasonable overview with regard to accounting — in particular the first
chapter, which provides a very helpful summary of how daily business activities
translate into the standard accounting and financial statements (and their
impact on your "bottom line"), as well as the chapter on
budgeting, which is a good overall reference for understanding what is and is
not important when preparing and using a budget. You'll also find a number
of helpful hints on product pricing, taxes, and managing financial risk.
Look elsewhere if you want in-depth info on Finance because this book
just doesn't seem very clear about the subject.
