Why a Coach?
Maybe you've never thought about having a coach, but
coaching is an edge (advantage) that
executive management has been using for years. Have you ever found
yourself thinking...
- If only I could talk to someone about this, I'd know what to
do next...But who?
- I can't discuss this with my manager...he/she doesn't
have time right now!
- If I say anything about this, everyone will think I'm stupid!
- I can handle it...I think.
- These people make me so angry I'd like to wring their necks...but
I don't want to spend the next 30 years in jail!
- They never taught us this at school!
- I'm a techie [engineer/scientist/researcher/technician]...why
do I have to deal with all of this "red tape?"
- I feel like I am missing something...but what?
The list could go on and on. If any of the above sound
familiar, you could benefit from having a coach. A coach is not
a mentor, a personal trainer, an educator, a cheerleader, or a therapist.
A coach is a little of all of these rolled into one.
Most of us could coach ourselves, but the fact is — we don't.
Even if we try to, we can't be truly objective, which is a big part of
the equation. Hiring
a coach is a commitment to taking control and moving your career to the next level.
A coach will keep you accountable to your goals. A coach often sees things that
you are unable to see because you are too close to the situation. Your coach
will not only help you identify what's working in your career
(and sometimes your life) but will further help you
seek out ways to make it work even better.
Bottom line:
A coach is someone who is focused on your needs, who has time for
you, who doesn't consider any of your questions or observations
"stupid," and who can help you build the confidence to be
successful.
